Throughlines: Pen & Ink Drawings by Kat Desy

Categories:

Drawings by Kat Desy will be on exhibit in the library’s Meeting Room Gallery during the months of July and August 2026.

The artist says of her work:

Throughlines brings together 34 drawings created over the last seven years, mapping the evolution of my intricate pen-and-ink practice. Beginning with intuitive mark-making and expanding into densely layered geometric structures, the work explores rhythm, repetition, movement, and the tension between control and spontaneity. Viewed together, the pieces reveal not only changing forms and complexity but also an ongoing process of growth and discovery.

I hope viewers first experience the drawings from a distance, taking in their overall silhouette and balance, before moving closer to discover the nested systems, shifting patterns, and smaller moments hidden within them.

Katherine (Kat) Desy is a contemporary pen and ink artist based in Stoughton, Massachusetts. Her intricate, monochromatic drawings explore rhythm, space, and contrast through geometric and abstract compositions, inviting viewers to navigate visual pathways and discover personal connections within each piece. Her work has been shown in over 25 international exhibitions since 2022.

Desy returned to drawing in 2020 after years of non-formal art training during adolescence. She started spontaneously drawing intricate designs on old drumheads, blending her passion for music with visual art. Her artistic approach remains deeply rooted in automatic drawing, embracing spontaneity and intuition. Desy is also Director of Marketing for a Boston cybersecurity start-up and serves as the Treasurer on the Cambridge Art Association Board of Directors.

All are welcome to a gallery artist talk on Saturday, July 11, at 11 a.m. in the Meeting Room.
