Teen Volunteers:

Are you in grades 9-12 and looking to be a Teen Volunteer? Do you need to complete you community service hours for school? Our volunteers help to keep shelves in order, re-shelve returned items, assist in the Reference, Children’s, Technical Services or Circulation departments, or perform other tasks as needed. Please download a copy of the application or email asood@actonma.gov for more information.

Junior Volunteers:

Students in grades 6, 7, or 8 are invited to volunteer in the Children’s Room. Junior Volunteering runs in three sessions: Spring (February-May), Summer (June-August), and Fall (September-January). We have space for 10 volunteers per week. If more than 10 applications are submitted, volunteers will be chosen by lottery. Junior volunteers are limited to one hour per week. Participants must reapply to continue volunteering for the next session.

Some typical tasks performed by junior volunteers:

  • Finding books from a printed list and putting them on carts
  • Shelving Children’s books
  • Shelf reading (checking to make sure books are in the correct order on the shelves)
  • Preparing craft materials, e.g., cutting paper, tracing templates, etc.
  • Cleaning baby toys

Applications will be accepted:

January 1-31 to volunteer for Spring

May 1-31 to volunteer for Summer

September 1-30 to volunteer for Fall

Please download a copy of the application and return it to the Children’s Department or email to acamp@actonma.gov.

Leadership Volunteer Opportunities:

The AML Teen Advisory Board is a leadership volunteer opportunity that meets during the school year on the last Wednesday of each month. This leadership opportunity helps you gain experience managing various projects, working collaboratively with a team and leading change in an organization. If so consider joining our meeting and help us decide on events, books, and other teen services and be the change you want to see! To join the Teen Advisory Group (TAG) email cbushie@actonma.gov for more information.
