Charles W. Reed was born May 12, 1840 in Littleton, Mass. to parents Jefferson Reed and Eliza Brigham (sources: Pension file; Westford death record, "Massachusetts Vital Records, 1841–1910," AmericanAncestors.org). He was the brother of George A. Reed (source: pension file).

[His mother] Eliza Reed, wife of Jefferson Reed, died in Concord of consumption on July 10, 1845, at the age of 37. [His father] Jefferson Reed married Susan C. Stitt of Boston on June 27, 1846 ("Concord, Massachusetts Births, Marriages, and Deaths, 1635 – 1850," AmericanAncestors.org).

Charles W. Reed, age 9, is recorded as an inhabitant of Framingham, Mass. in the 1850 federal census, in household (dwelling no. 670/723) of Jefferson Reed, age 36, a finisher, and Susan Reed, age 37. Also in the household is George A. Reed, age 8 ("1850 United States Federal Census," Ancestry.com).

Charles Reed, age 20, is recorded as an inhabitant of Littleton, Mass. in the 1860 federal census, in household (dwelling no. 45) of Jefferson and Susan Reed ("1860 United States Federal Census," Ancestry.com).

Charles W. Reed was a 70 year old farmer in Westford, Mass. at the time of his death in 1910 (Westford death record).
