Photographs by John Linn

November 1 - December 23, 2022 in the Meeting Room Gallery

Photographs by John Linn will be on exhibit in the library's Meeting Room Gallery during the months of November and December 2022.

The artist says of his work:

My interest in birding grew from my background in photography, which has been a part of my life since I was a child. I particularly enjoy capturing images of birds in the context of their environment and behavior. In earlier years, I’d emphasized landscapes, but have always been intrigued by watching others who’d developed abilities to recognize and appreciate living, flying nature. I’ve found bird photography engaging and rewarding in many ways, given its combination of aesthetics, nature, and technology and the challenges of finding and capturing views of subjects that perch, move, and migrate.

I’ve visited Great Meadows National Wildlife Refuge in Concord frequently for several decades, and have more recently discovered the delights of Plum Island in the informed and congenial company of Mass Audubon groups. In this collection, I’ve assembled a selection of images from these and other New England locales, spanning seasons across several years.

John Linn graduated from Hampshire College in Amherst with a concentration in computer science and systems. Over the course of his subsequent career, John's technical focus emphasized information security and privacy, and he authored and edited numerous papers, articles, and standards in that field.

Following his retirement in 2013, John pursued opportunities to explore long-standing interests in photography and nature. He completed a range of courses and development projects, gaining and refreshing technology skills to apply to his interests. John enjoys getting outdoors to collect photographs, selecting and processing them to create images, and considers each of these elements as portions of a creative process. He is a Carlisle resident.
