Going Away? Freeze Your Holds!
by Reference Librarian 2 | November 30, 2022 at 03:11 PM
It's disappointing to wait for a book, only to have it arrive while you are on vacation and unable to pick it up.
If you are planning on being away, you can use the "Freeze" (suspend) Holds option in My Account so that items don’t arrive while you are away. You will not lose your place in the request queue by freezing a request. When you unfreeze your request you will be restored to your previous place in line.
This option works best when your request is part of a long waiting list for an item.
To use the Freeze option on your existing hold requests:
-
Log in to My Account and click on Holds.
-
Check the box that appears on the right in the FREEZE column.
-
Click on UPDATE LIST.
-
To re-activate your hold, reverse the process by unchecking the box in the FREEZE column and click UPDATE LIST.
Requests are not eligible to be frozen if either of the following situations applies:
- Items in the network are currently Available to fill the request.
- The hold is already In Transit or Ready for Pickup.
