The Acton Memorial Library is closed to the public.

The Acton Memorial Library is closed to the public until further notice to help minimize the spread of COVID-19. We are actively working on our plans to phase in our in-person services. Our highest priority is the health and safety of our library patrons and library staff. We will be following public health guidelines and working closely with other town departments, our library network, and neighboring libraries to determine when it will be safe to begin in-person services. Contactless Curbside Pick Up

You can now request Acton items online for curbside pick up at find.minlib.net

1. Go to find.minlib.net and request items online. If you need to create or reset your library password, please click HERE. Items must be listed online as Available in Acton, and we ask that you limit requests to 5 items. If you need assistance selecting materials or placing holds online, please call the Reference Department at 978-929-6543 and leave a message. We will return your call.

2. Please wait for an email saying your holds are ready. If the library does not have an email address for you, the library will call you when your items are ready. We ask for your patience with this process, as pulling holds is taking longer than usual due to high demand and safety procedures.

3. When your holds are ready, you can schedule a curbside pickup appointment online or by calling the Circulation Department at 978-929-6655 option 2.

4. Pick up your holds at your appointment time.

If you missed your pickup appointment or need to reschedule an appointment, please call the Circulation Department at 978-929-6655, option 2, between the hours of 10:30 am - 5:30 pm Monday-Friday, and 10:30 am - 1:30 pm on Saturdays. You can also cancel your existing appointment and book a new appointment online.

The library is open for curbside pickup by appointment only.

 

Returns, Requests, Fines ...

  • Returns:  The outdoor bookdrop is open for returns. Materials will be quarantined for at least 7 days after they are returned and before they are checked in. While in quarantine, returned materials will still show as checked out to your library account.  All overdue fines are being waived on items due while the library is closed.
  • Requests/Reserves:  Materials currently available in the library can be held for curbside pickup. Delivery services from other libraries are not yet available.
  • Fines:  We are automatically waiving fines for any items that become due while we are closed. 
  • Donations:  We cannot accept donations of used books while the library is closed.
  • Museum Passes:  Museum passes are currently not available while the library is closed. Passes are not available for curbside pickup at this time.

Curbside Pickup

I placed my requests online. What is the next step?

Please wait for an email saying your holds are ready. If the library does not have an email address for you, the library will call you when your items are ready. When your holds are ready, you can schedule a curbside pickup appointment by online or calling the Circulation Department at 978-929-6655 option 2.  We ask for your patience with this process, as pulling holds is taking longer than usual due to high demand and safety procedures.

 

I scheduled my curbside pickup appointment, but the earliest available appointment date was later than the "Pick up by" date in the email notice I received. Will my holds still be waiting for me?

At this time, as long as you schedule a curbside pickup appointment by the "Pick up by" date, we will hold your items until your appointment even if the apppointment date is later than the "Pick up by" date. However, slots fill up quickly, so please try to schedule your appointment as soon as possible after receiving notice that your holds are ready!

 

After I scheduled my curbside pickup appointment, I received notice that more of my holds are also ready. Can I add these items to my existing pickup order?

If more of your holds are ready between when you call the library to schedule your curbside pickup appointment and the day of the appointment itself, Circulation staff will automatically add those items to your existing pickup order. There is no need to contact the library to schedule a new appointment or update your existing pickup.

 

When should I call the Circulation Department?

Please call Circulation at 978-929-6655, option 2, if you:

  • Received a phone or email message that your holds are ready and need to schedule curbside pickup
  • Missed your curbside pickup appointment
  • Cannot make your existing curbside pickup appointment and need to reschedule

Circulation staff are available to answer the phone 10:30-5:30 Monday-Friday, and 10:30-1:30 on Saturdays.

You can also schedule a curbside pickup appointment online, as well as cancel your existing appointment and book a new appointment. If you choose the online option, there is no need to call Circulation.

 

Is curbside pickup only available to Acton residents? 

Acton’s curbside pickup service is available to anyone with a Minuteman library card. 

 

If I schedule curbside pickup in Acton for some holds, will that interfere with holds I have arranged to pick up at another library?

Scheduling curbside pickup in Acton will not disrupt holds you have arranged to pick up at another library.

 

Requesting Items

I was told to place my hold requests online, but I’m not comfortable using a computer.

Please call the Reference Department at 978-929-6543 and leave a message with up to 5 titles you would like to request or with information about the types of items (author, subject, actor) you are looking for. After we contact you and place the holds for you, Circulation staff will contact you when the holds are ready to schedule curbside pick up.

 

How do I request an item from the online catalog? Do I need to add items to my Book Cart?

To request an item from search results or the item’s detailed record, click the “Request” button next to the title. Log into your library account if you have not already done so and follow the prompts to complete your request.

You do not need to add items to the Book Cart to request them. The Book Cart allows you to temporarily store items in one place while searching or browsing the catalog, and ultimately print out that information or save those records to an online list in your library account. 

 

The catalog says the item I want is Available in Acton, but it also says there are 3 holds on 10 copies. Can I still request this item for curbside pick up?

Yes! The holds statement reflects the number of hold requests for that title across the network, some of which may be to borrow at a later date. As long as the record says the item is Available in Acton, our copy should be on the shelf for you to borrow through curbside pick up.

 

Can I pick up items from other libraries in Acton or have Acton items sent to other libraries for pickup?

At this time are only able to provide curbside pick up for items which are listed in the catalog (https://find.minlib.net) as Available in Acton. We will not be able to obtain items belonging to other libraries or send Acton items to other libraries until the statewide delivery service resumes.

If the item you are interested in is listed in the online catalog as available at another Minuteman public library, you may want to contact that library to see if they offer curbside pick up as well.

Can I request more than 5 items to pick up in Acton?

Out of fairness to other patrons who would like to use this popular service, we ask that you please limit your curbside pickup request to 5 available items.

 

I would like to request items for pick up, but I have too many library fines on my account. Can I pay my fines online with a credit card?

Outdoor Book Drop

Can I return items from other Minuteman libraries in Acton’s outdoor book drop?

Yes! Acton is accepting materials from all Minuteman libraries in our book drop. Materials will be quarantined for at least 7 days after they are returned and before they are checked in. While in quarantine, returned materials will still show as checked out to your library account. All overdue fines are being waived on items due while the library is closed.

Please do not return materials to Acton which belong to libraries outside of the Minuteman Library Network (including Boxborough, Littleton and Westford). We are unable to check in those materials in Acton.

 

Can I return DVDs/CDs/audiobooks in Acton’s outdoor book drop?

While the library is closed, you can return all materials from Minuteman libraries – including DVDs, CDs and books on CD – in Acton's outdoor book drop. As with books, media materials will be quarantined for at least 7 days after they are returned and before they are checked in. While in quarantine, returned materials will still show as checked out to your library account. All overdue fines are being waived on items due while the library is closed.

 

I returned my library items a few days ago, but they still appear on my account. What's going on?

I have borrowed items that are too big or too fragile to put in the outdoor book drop.

I borrowed items belonging to Acton, but I am currently out of town or my local library is not yet accepting returns. What do I do?

Please feel free to hold onto your library materials for now and return them as soon as you are able to do so. All late fines are being waived on items due while the library is closed.

 

I checked out an item in Acton through the Commonwealth Catalog. Can I return it in Acton’s book drop, or should I return it to the home library?

Please return your Commonwealth Catalog item to Acton, not the home library. Because you checked out the book in Acton, the item needs to be returned to Acton so that we can complete the interlibrary loan paperwork on our end and return it to the home library. 

You can return this item in Acton's outdoor book drop, along with any other Minuteman library materials. As with all other returned items, Commonwealth Catalog materials will be quarantined for at least 7 days after they are returned and before they are checked in. All overdue fines are being waived on items due while the library is closed.
