Freegal Music Service

What is Freegal?

Freegal is a downloadable and streaming music service available to any Acton resident with a valid Minuteman Library card. Freegal offers access to about 3 million songs in MP3 format. There is no software to download, and there are no digital rights management (DRM) restrictions. Access to the library's subscription to Freegal is limited to Acton residents.

The service is funded by the Acton Memorial Library Foundation, Inc.

Features

  • Simple to use with no special software to download and no digital rights management (DRM) restrictions
  • Standard MP3 format compatible with most devices
  • Download 3 songs per week per library card, and/or listen to three hours per day of streaming music
  • Downloaded songs never expire; they're yours to keep
  • Download counter resets every Monday at 12:01 a.m. (Eastern time)
  • Listen through your computer's media player
  • Transfer to an iPod by dragging the MP3 to iTunes or transfer to other MP3 players through your media manager
  • Free mobile apps are available for Apple devices (iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch) and Android device
  • Burn to disc using any standard software for burning CDs
  • If a download is interrupted, you can re-download up to 2 times within 2 weeks under "Recent Downloads."
