For students entering Grades 6, 7, or 8
Students in grades 6, 7, or 8 are invited to volunteer in the Children’s Department.
During the school year we have space for 12 volunteers per week, Monday through Saturday (no Sundays).
The school year is divided into three segments of three months each: Oct./Nov./Dec.; or Jan./Feb./ Mar.; or Apr./May/June; allowing for 12 hours of volunteering per segment (1 hour per week). Hours available are after school until 30 minutes before closing, Monday through Saturday. Some students volunteer for the entire year while others sign up for one 3 month session.
Registration forms are available in the Childrens Department. No registration forms will be accepted before September 16th.
During July and August we sign up 30 volunteers who pledge 5 hours of work over the 8 weeks of the Summer Reading Program. Students who choose to volunteer during the summer must attend one of two introductory meetings held in May. At the meetings students receive a registration form to select dates and times for volunteering. Forms are accepted the second week of June on a 1st-come 1st-served basis.
June is a transitional month for students. Those leaving grade 5 are welcome to volunteer in the Childrens Department as incoming 6th graders, while those leaving 8th grade will register with the Young Adult Department as incoming high school freshmen.
