Charlotte Sagoff
Memorial Garden

"If you have a garden and a library, you have everything you need." — Cicero

During 2008, a group of Acton citizens and friends set out to honor the memory of Charlotte Sagoff, a beloved citizen of Acton for many years. With the help of many local people, businesses, and town officials, a lovely new seating garden has been created just outside the main entrance of the Acton Memorial Library.

The entire community was invited to the dedication ceremony on Saturday, September 12 at the Library. The Program Book outlined the day's events. This privately funded project was organized by members of the Acton Memorial Library Board of Trustees, the Friends of the Acton Libraries, and ACES (Acton Citizens for Environmental Safety). Funding and other essential assistance has been provided by over 100 generous donors, including businesses & community organizations, and individual donors.

A dogwood tree was already growing just behind the patio-bench location, and provides a beautiful backdrop to the garden. Here is a view from ground level. The overall design concept is the creation of Tom Tidman, Acton's Director of Natural Resources. D.P. Lenox Landscaping, Inc. carried out the brick installation and other sitework. The plantings are the work of Acton Recreation Director Cathy Fochtman and several fabulous volunteers. Please contact Cathy if you would like to help.
