Organized April, 1865, from 1st, 2nd and 4th Unattached Companies Heavy Artillery. 5th Unattached Company Heavy Artillery added June, 1863. Organized for Coast Defense.

Company "A" on duty at Fort Warren, Boston Harbor, until December 24, 1864. At Champlain. N.Y., until May 13, 1865, and at Fort Warren until October, 1865. Mustered out October 20, 1865.

Company "B" at Fort Warren until August, 1864, and at New Bedford, Mass., until June, 1865. Mustered out June 29, 1865.

Company "C" on duty at Fort Warren until October, 1865. Mustered out October 20, 1865.

Company "D" at Fort Independence to September, 1865. Mustered out September 12, 1865.

Companies "E" and "F" organized August 15, 1864, for one year. On duty at Fort Warren. Mustered out June 28, 1865.

Companies "A," "C" and "D" also furnished detachments for duty at Plymouth, Provincetown, Gloucester, Marblehead, Newburyport, Fairhaven, etc.
