Sylvanus R. Hunt, age 21, a stone cutter, is recorded as an inhabitant of West Acton in the 1860 federal census (dwelling no. 196), in household with Hiram Hunt, age 50, a stone cutter, and Susan Hunt, age 57 ("1860 United States Federal Census," Ancestry.com).

The enlistment of Sylvanus Hunt (drafted) is recorded in the 1863/64 annual report for the Town of Acton:19-20.

The name Sylvanus Hunt is recorded on the Acton Memorial Library Soldiers' Tablet, "The Men of Acton Who Fought For The Union.
