Calvin Thomas, age 20, a laborer, is recorded as an inhabitant of Roxbury Ward 3, Norfolk, Massachusetts, in the 1860 federal census, in household (dwelling no. 2769/4067) of Henry and Malvina Thomas. Also in the household were James Thomas and Edwin G. Thomas. ("1860 United States Federal Census," Ancestry.com)

Calvin Porter Thomas, a "Soldier", age 25, born in Maine, is recorded in the 1865 Massachusetts State Census as a resident of Acton, at residence with Henry Currier Thomas, age 55, and family, including James Sulivan Thomas,and Edwin Guilford Thomas (Lainhart, 1855 and 1865 Massachusetts State Censuses for Acton, p. 73).
