Charles W. Reed was born May 12, 1840 in Littleton, Mass. to parents Jefferson Reed and Eliza Brigham (sources: Pension file; 1910 Westford death record, Massachusetts Vital Records, 1841–1910. In: American Ancestors  [online database]). He was the brother of George A. Reed (source: pension file).

[His mother] Eliza Reed, wife of Jefferson Reed, died in Concord of consumption on July 10, 1845, at the age of 37. [His father] Jefferson Reed married Susan C.
