According to his pension file George W. Knapp was born August 27, 1829 in Boxborough, Mass. 

The record for his first marriage indicates that his parents were Elijah and Levina Knapp  (who were also the parents of Francis W. Knapp(source: Danvers marrage register, Massachusetts Vital Records, 1841–1910.  In:  American Ancestors  [online database].)

George W. Knapp, age 21, married Nancy L. Norton, age 15, in Danvers, Mass. on March 22, 1851. (source: Danvers marrage register, Massachusetts Vital Records, 1841–1910.  In:  American Ancestors  [online database].).  In the pension file, the woman he married on this date is referred to as Rebecca P. Knapp, or Rebecca Norton.

George Washington Knapp, a 26 year old shoemaker, is recorded in the 1855 Massachusetts State Census for Acton, in household (dwelling no. 193/197) with Rebecca Page Knapp, age 21, and two children (George Francis and Alphonso Sandford)  (source:  1855 and 1865 Massachusetts State Census for Acton. According to records in his pension file, after the war George W. Knapp lived in Lynn (c. 1866-1897), Salem (until 1909), and Revere (1909-).  He divorced his first wife around 1873, and married twice more.

His second wife, Alvina/Elvina Knapp (Trefethen) (married 1873 in Lynn), died June 26, 1878 in Lynn  (source: Lynne death register, Massachusetts Vital Records, 1841–1910.  In:  American Ancestors  [online database].)

His third wife, Nancy E. Knapp (Hood) (married 1897 in Lynn), died August 3, 1909 in Salem and was buried in South Acton (source: Salem death record, Massachusetts Vital Records, 1841–1910.  In:  American Ancestors  [online database].)
