in
Acton County of  Middlesex State of Massachusetts

As captain, I first entered the service on August 31st, 1862 in Co. E Sixth Regiment at Acton, Mass.I still held the rank of captain and at the close of the war it was still the same.

My term of service having expired, I was finally discharged on June 3rd, 1863, at Lowell, Mass.

My first engagement took place on November 18th, 1862 at Ludlow Lawrence's Plantation on the Blackwater, Va.I also took part in the engagement at Carsville, Va.

I was never wounded or taken prisoner but was confined in a hospital at Suffolk, Va.

Among my most intimate comrades were Lieut. A. S. Fletcher, Frank H. Whitcomb, Lieut I. Hutchins, Albert Moulton, George Hines, and Levi Robbins.

Captain Handley had commanded the Davis Guards some years before the war. His grandfather had served in the Revolutionary War and his father did military duty in the war of 1812.

The Regiment assisted to build Forts Vansemond and McLellan at Suffolk also did scouting duty destroying Rebel Railroads, the Norfolk and Petersburg and Seaboard and Roanoke.

I Certify that the Sketch of my War service as above written is true as
I verily believe
