Mass., on the seventh day of August 1862, I first entered the service
as private in Co. B 40th Regiment Mass. Volunteers.
On December 21st, 1864, I was promoted in rank to Corporal. I was
first discharged at Richmond, Va. And was finally discharged on
June 16th, 1865 as the war had come to an end.
battle was at the "Siege of Suffolk" from April 18th to
May 4th, 1863.
I was also engaged at Baltimore Cross Roads, Va. July 2, 1863, at
Siege of Fort Wagner S.C. from August 15th to August 30th, 1863,
Seabrook Farms S.C. Nov. 15, 1863. ten miles Run Fla. July 8, 1864.
at Fort Wagner on August on August 20, 1863.
I consider the taking of Richmond, Va. the most important event
during my army life.
Wall was also at the following engagements besides the above mentioned
St. Mary's Creek, Lake City, Gainesville, Chester, Cedar Creek,
Mc Girt's Creek, Fla. - Chester Station, Va. Drury Bluff, Va. Hackers
at Batt*** Church, Va. May 20, 1864, Cold Harbor June 1 to 3rd Petersburg
June 15, Seige of Petersburg from June 20 to August 28th, Repulse
of Hapgoods Brigade June 2, Mine Explosion July 30, Fair Oaks Va,
Oct. 27. Capture of Richmond, Apr. 3, 1865
