Chase, Lowell, Mass., I first entered the service on Sept. 30th,
1861, in Company E. 26th Mass. Infantry.
On January 2nd, 1864, I was promoted to Corporal and on July 1st,
1865 to Sargeant, holding this rank at the close of the war.
By reason of enlistment, I was first discharged on Jany 1st, 1864
at New Iberia, Louisiana and I re-enlisted and on August 26th, 1865
at Savannah, Georgia, I was finally discharged, per Circular No.
30 and instructions from the Dept. of Georgia. My first engagement
was at LaForche Crossing, La. And also took part at Winchester,
Va,. Fishers Hill and Cedar Creek.
I was never wounded or confined in prison but was in April 1863
confined at Quarantine Station, La.
Cyrus Pickard, Charles Parkhurst, Charles Morse, Geo. A. Reed, D.H.
Hall, S.R. Burroughs and Wm. Hunt were among my most intimate comrades.
I consider the Capture of New Orleans, The Shenandoah Valley Campaign
under Sheridan, the most important events of my army life.
