Mass., on the nineteenth of April, 1861, I entered the service,
as private in Company G. Fifth Regiment M.V.M. and on Aug. 31st,
1862, I was promoted in rank to Corporal holding this rank at the
end of the war.
I was first
discharged at Boston, Mass., on July 31st, 1861 as my time on enlistment
had expired and again enlisted in the Sixth Regiment M.V.M.
I was finally
discharged at Lowell, Mass. on June 3rd,1863 as my term had expired.
engagement was Battle of Bull Run, on July 2nd, 1861 and I also
took part at Ludlow Lawrences Plantation, on the Blackwater
on Nov. 18, 1862; at Joiners Ford on the Blackwater on Dec.
12, 1862; at Deserted House on Jany 30, 1863; at Siege of Suffolk,
on Apr. 16, 1863. Commenced skirmishing continued for several days,
the enemy being repulsed in every attack.
I was never
wounded, confined in hospital, taken prisoner or confined in a prison.
most intimate comrades were Elbridge Robbins, Cyrus Hosmer, Sydney
Rice, Henry Willard, Albert Moulton and H. Watts.
