Mass. on January 5th, 1863, I first entered the service, as private,
in Co. B. 18th Mass. Volunteers and held no other rank during the
war, still a private at the close of the war. On July 20th, 1864,
I was first discharged at New York. I then re-enlisted in U. S.
Navy and when the war had closed, I was finally discharged on June
I was wounded
at Cold Harbor.
I was never
confined in a hospital or taken prisoner.
Among my most intimate comrades were Sergt. Smith, Capt. McCarthy,
Sergt. Ayers, Thos. Griffin, John Griffin, Sergt. Little and Col.
I have also been in several other engagements of which I do not
remember the places.
