Chase, Lowell, Mass., I first entered the service, as private, in
Company E 26th Regiment Mass. Vet. Volunteers in September 1861.
in service I held the rank of Corporal and also that of a Commissionary
Sergeant and was promoted on October 20th, 1864. At end of war I
still held the rank of Commissionary Sergeant.
1st, 1864 I was first discharged at New Iberia La. and the reason
was because I needed to be re-enlisted.
I was re-enlisted
and at Winchester Va on April 14th, 1865 I was finally discharged
per Special Order No 92 super-numerary consolidation of regiment.
battle I took part in was at Bay on Lafourch Crossing, Louisiana
and Sabine Pass, Texas.
1864, I took part in the engagement at Winchester, Va. (Opequan
Creek); on Sept. 22nd, 1864 at Fisher's Hill, Va., and Oct. 19th,
1864 at Cedar Creek, Va.
I was confined
in March, 1864, at Regimental Hospital, N. C. and at Alabama Cotton
most intimate comrades were John. H. Fletcher, S. R. Burroughs,
James F. Upham and Frank H. Stevens.

campaign in Shenandoah Valley, Va., under Gen. Phillip H. Sheridan
in 1864 and 1865
