first as private, in Company D 53 Regiment Infantry Mass. Volunteers
at Camp Stevens, Ayer Junction (then Groton) Mass., on the second
of September, 1862.
I did not
hold any other rank while in service and at the close it still remained
Stevens, Ayer Junction Mass., I was first discharged on Sept. 2,
1863 as my term of service had expired.
I was not
re-enlisted, or again commissioned but was transferred to Nineteenth
battle was at Franklin, Louisiana and I also was engaged in one
at Bisland was never wounded or taken prisoner but was confined
in Convalescent Camp.
service A. W. Fletcher, Westford, Mass., Lawrence, Smith, Moore,
Whitcomb, Miles, Wolcott & others of my own town and quota were
among my most intimate comrades.
