Acton Historical Town Records Transcribed and Online

Transcriptions of Acton's earliest Town Records, from founding in 1735 through 1829 are now available on the library website in PDF format. These are primarily Town Meeting, Selectmen and financial records kept by the town clerks and treasurers. Records for the Civil War years are also available in a separate file. Work on the transcriptions began in 2003 when volunteer Paulina Knibbe transcribed the earliest records that had been digitized with a federal LSTA (Library Services and Technology Act) grant. Ten years later volunteer Irene Cavanagh completed transcribing an additional 1,200 pages of the handwritten records. The PDFs, which are fully searchable, are available on the library website.

The library is seeking additional volunteers to continue work on the transcriptions. If interested contact Susan Paju at spaju@acton-ma.gov.
