Basic Keyboard Tutorials

TypingWeb:  Beginner to advanced lessons as well as specialty lessons. Premium lessons are available to preview, but require you to pay to go further. Courses identify problem keys, words per minute, and accuracy. Log-in to keep track of your progress.

Typing Test : Very simple typing tests. Gives speed and errors. Does not vary for beginners or advanced students, but does allow you to select between text and numbers or numbers and text.

Peter's Online Typing Course:  Very simple lessons. There is no log-in so work cannot be saved. This site offers practice lessons and practice exercises.

Good Typing:  Typing lessons in multiple languages. 27 different courses.

BBC Dance Mat Typing : An animated typing game from the BBC; great for kids.

Free Typing Games.net:  Various flash-type games to play. Player can choose to vary the game based on skill level with the keyboard.

Only Typing Games:  Simple, but fun games, for every skill level.


Other Helpful Tutorials

New User Tutorial : Teaches both mouse and keyboard skills. Great for new users and those unfamiliar with a computer.

Microsoft Office  tutorials: If you’re looking for help in Word, Excel, Powerpoint,  Access or other Microsoft products, these tutorials will help out a lot. They are available for versions 2003 and newer.

Windows 7 Tutorial: 17 videos on using this operating system and how to get the most out of it. Learn about some of the new features that Microsoft has included to make using the computer easier. Recommended for users that are familiar with the mouse and keyboard and basic functions of a computer.

Windows Vista Tutorial: This tutorial is not interactive, but gives good descriptions about the various features of the operating system. Definitely not for the new user.

Windows XP Tutorial: This tutorial is similar to the Vista Tutorial except it explains an older operating system. Again, it is not for a new user.

Bare Bones 101 – Produced by USC’s library, this site will help you understand basic searching on the Internet as well as explanations of several different search engines.

Learn The Net – An excellent site for any beginner venturing out onto the Internet. It explains topics ranging from clicking on links to social networks.
